I got into Whiskey a while back through a long-time friend of mine who used to be in the business of selling Whiskeys. So as a newcomer to the hobby, I ended up jumping straight into it without researching and getting a better understanding of the underlying process of making Whiskey. Well, to be fair I did visit distilleries where they go over the process, it just never really stuck since I wasn't interested in making Whiskey by myself but rather drinking and enjoying them. However, a big part of understanding the unique flavours and characteristics which are associated with different distilleries around the world is down to the ingredients used as well as the process employed. With that in mind, this post will lay out the basics for myself to refer back to whenever I'm in doubt in the future.
